Family Holiday Activities Checklist

by Rebecca Gold 14 Dec 2022

Looking for something fun to do with the family this holiday season? There are SO many fun things to do and it’s the perfect time of year to do them! The holidays should be about reconnecting with your loved ones. No matter how much shopping and errands you have to do, make sure you carve out some quality time to have fun with your family. The holidays will be here and then gone before you know it. Things can get hectic fast and the whole season can become a stressful month-long to-do list. Take time to let loose and have fun while making life-long memories with your closest friends, family and loved ones. We promise it’ll be well worth it! Here are a few MUST-DO holiday activities that you’ll love celebrating with your family - don’t let the season pass without completing these!

Ice Skating

Ice Skating

What is more magical than ice skating around the holidays? Whether you grew up somewhere with snow and ice skating was a season-long activity or whether you only got to see that sort of thing in scenes from Home Alone 2 because you grew up in a hotter climate, we all associate ice-skating with the joyful moments of the holiday season. It’s so quintessentially winter! Throw on some ice skates, grab your best friends, your significant other or your mini-me and hit the ice! Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, you can still have fun gliding over the ice and feeling like Elsa in Frozen!

Dressing up in a cute winter outfit makes it even more fun and gives you the most epic photo opp ever. Some winter-themed leggings like printed leggings or solid whites, off-whites, greens or reds can look so festive on the ice! Dress for the cold by wearing layers - like long-sleeved, comfortable tops and a crop-top or long puffer jacket. Ear muffs and a beanie and you’re the cutest little snow queen!

Lights Displays

Lights Displays

A classic memory so many of us have is looking at Christmas lights. Whether it was driving around the block to tour the neighbors’ Christmas lights or going to a holiday theme park like Disney and enjoying the spectacular light displays they put on every year, this is something kids will look back on for years to come and most likely, want to pass on to their kids, too! Make it a tradition. Spend time researching the best light displays in your area. If you’re driving around, throw on some Christmas Carols in the car, bring some snacks for the kids in the car, make sure they’re bundled up, roll down the windows and drive slow! You can also make it a walking tour with the whole family. Have the kids wear some fun, festive outfits like Christmas-printed tees and leggings, boots, fuzzy beanies and plenty of layers to keep them toasty.

Holiday DIY Craft Projects

Holiday DIY Craft Projects

Another memory so many of us adults have nowadays is the cute DIY projects we did at home with our parents. Whether it was making gingerbread houses together or stringing popcorn onto string to make garlands, DIY projects is a hands-on way to give your kids so many Christmas memories they’ll always cherish. Other DIY craft projects include making Holiday wreaths, decorating your stockings, wrapping gifts for other family and friends together, making a countdown link chain with construction paper that allows the kids to tear off a link the closer it gets to December 25th, and making gingerbread cookies. The possibilities are endless - look up some fun projects online and get going on some holiday memory-making!

Watching Christmas Movies

Watching Christmas Movies

Light up the fireplace, heat up some popcorn, hot chocolate and make it a movie night! The holidays aren’t the same without all the heart-warming Christmas movies. Make time to watch the classics with your kids, your parents, your family, friends or loved ones. Some great suggestions are Home Alone, Home Alone 2, Miracle on 34th Street, The Santa Clause, Elf, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Die Hard, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Muppet Christmas Carol, and so many others!
