Getting Yourself Motivated to Work Out

by Rebecca Gold 16 Dec 2020

The holidays are here and soon after, the new year will follow. That means plenty of fun, family, food and sweets. Between visits, shopping for gifts and cooking, then hitting the ground running at the top of the new year, health and exercise could easily take a back seat. Whether your weekly fitness routine involves at-home workouts, a regular gym sesh, a zumba class, yoga class or morning runs, don’t get knocked off track. It can be tough, but you can do it! Stay motivated through the holiday season and into the new year with these tips.

Work Out Buddy

Work Out Buddy

Let’s be real; we all perform better when there’s someone watching us or waiting on us. Use it to your advantage! Get yourself a workout buddy who won’t let you let up! You can do your workouts together if your buddy is local. But even if they’re not, there are apps you can use to track your heart rate and other workout metrics. Keep up with each other’s progress digitally, even from afar. Pro tip: Gift your workout buddy with some matching printed yoga leggings or matching activewear like a printed sports bra and matching shorts for the holidays. You can wear them together during your workouts to keep you connected!

Family Work Outs

Family Work Outs

The importance of fitness is becoming more normalized nowadays Incorporate exercise into your family’s daily routine. The same way you don’t miss a meal together, you won’t want to miss a work out together if it’s a tradition or a family activity. It’s great for bonding and teaching your kids about leading a healthy lifestyle. You’ll also be setting a great example while holding yourself accountable and reaching your fitness goals. Once again, matching activewear is a great way to keep up the morale. Get a custom tee with the family name on it that you can all wear together. Or get everyone matching workout gear, like colorful printed leggings for the girls and a custom phrase on the tees for the boys.

Get Enough Sleep and Get Up Early

Get Enough Sleep and Get Up Early

This part right here is key. If you constantly stay up unnecessarily late into the night, you’ll have a late start to your day, feel groggy through half of it, and won’t get much done until the second half of the day. Get more done by starting earlier. You’ll actually get up if you went to sleep on time the night before. You’ll feel more refreshed when you get up and have more energy to do your morning workouts. You’ll get your exercise out of the way, opening up your schedule for everything else you need to do. It’ll set the tone for the day, make you feel more accomplished and allow you to reach your fitness goals without needing to forego all the fun stuff the holidays will bring!

Stay Productive on Rest Days

Stay Productive on Rest Days

Often, if we don’t accomplish what we need to on our off days, we end up sacrificing the time we do have on our assigned work out days. Make sure you’re taking full advantage of those rest days to do shopping, social appointments, errands or whatever you need to so that when it is a workout day, you won’t skip it or feel guilty for working out.
