Why Family Beach Days are Necessary
Waves crashing, the feeling of sand underneath your feet, the sound of seagulls overhead and the warm tingle of the sun on your skin - do you remember the last time you went to beach? Going to the beach is a summertime pastime for families living in coastal areas. For those not so close to the ocean, rallying the kids, packing up and lugging everything to the ocean isn’t as easy as it is for the lucky residents of coastal towns. Also, going with your significant other on a romantic beach getaway or going there with adult friends is different than organizing a beach vacay with kids. But it’s well worth it! Here’s why you shouldn’t let this summer pass you by without heading to the ocean:
Unplug to Reconnect
The first and most obvious beach benefit: It gets your family off their tablets and back outside! These days, we can lose hours, even days, sitting in one place and scrolling. It takes a toll on our bodies and minds. Meanwhile, we’re missing out on fresh air, the wind in our hair, and vitamin D from the sun. Our bodies also benefit from motion, so geting back outside stimulates us to walk, run and move! Getting your kids to the beach means encouraging them to be active and allowing them to reconnect with their own minds and bodies. It’ll also help you reconnect as a family.
Appreciate Nature
We get so overstimulated looking at photos and videos of far away places. While the internet can be a great way to learn about all the beautiful places this earth has to offer, there’s nothing like experiencing nature firsthand. When your kids are live and in person, soaking in the sun and looking at the reflection of the light on the water, feeling the waves wash over them and immersed in one of earth’s wonders, they’ll truly appreciate how blessed we are to live on this planet.
Encourage Play and Enjoy Relaxation
What is there to do at the beach? The possibilities are endless. Kids love running, playing tag, building sandcastles, and snorkeling and viewing the sea life if they are old enough to do this. Pack a volleyball or frisbee for your beach day and watch them entertain themselves for hours. That frees parents up for tanning, reading a book, taking a swim or just taking deep breaths and meditating in the ocean air.
The Beach has Health Benefits
It’s been proven that our brains and bodies respond positively when we’re at the beach. Kids and adults both can enjoy the healing benefits of the ocean’s saltwater. It clears out mucus in the nose and nasal passages. As mentioned before, it’s an opportunity for our skin to soak in the sun vitamin, vitamin D, which helps our bones and our heart health. The ocean’s saltwater also has curative effects on cuts and wounds on our skin. The magnesium and potassium in saltwater also helps fight infection. Last but not least, the beach environment helps us relax, reduces our stress and improves our mood.
Is a Great Way to Make Memories
Time flies when you're raising kids and before you know it, they’re driving away to college. You’ll instantly have a flashback of all the moments you took for granted. Live in the now and create bonding moments and precious memories while you still can. A trip to the beach is a perfect way to enrich your kids’ childhood experience while creating opportunities for your family to connect in a fun way. Imagine your feeling when you’re looking back at picture frame featuring your kids in their cute, colorful kids’ bathing suits, sand pails in their hands or splashing each other with water, laughing, looks of pure joy and bliss on their faces. It’s the perfect opportunity for a family photoshoot, capturing candid moments of living in the moment.
