5 Ways to Stay Active This Summer
Looking and feeling our best is always the goal, especially during summer. Sunny days, bikinis, crop tops, and shorts are the ingredients for wanting to look fit! But summertime also means parties, vacations, traveling, cookouts and other events that might keep you from staying on top of your routine. If you find yourself becoming inconsistent, here are 5 ways you can adjust your routine to make sure you’re staying up with your fitness regimen:
Beach Workouts
Headed to the beach? Whether it was your idea or you got invited, bring some beach workout stuff and instigate a beach sweat sesh! You can bring some workout equipment and suggest a few circuits, or you can bring a football, soccer ball, volleyball or a frisbee and get a few games going. You’ll have fun playing the games AND burn some calories at the same time. Get some water games going, too. Challenge your friends to a race in the water - there’s no better workout than a hard, focused swim. These are all great ways to double up on your summer experiences. You won’t have to miss out on summer outings, you’ll get to have fun and get those workouts in while doing it!
Workout Dates
Want to catch up with friends? Don’t just default to the same boring stuff (dinner, drinks or movies) - why not suggest some workout dates! Find a local fitness class and get moving. It can be anything from a spin class to yoga, boxing to dance or even rock climbing. Whatever you suggest, you can add a little smoothies or coffee date at the end to give yourselves a reward and a chance for some focused conversation. But you’ll be killing two birds with one stone! To make it extra cute, you can even bring your friend a matching workout outfit as a gift!
Take up Dancing
Love music and dance? Join a dance class! Whether you have experience or not, it’s never too late to learn something new. Take up a new style of dance that you’ve always wanted to learn. Whether it’s salsa, afrobeats, caribbean dance, belly dance, flamenco, hip hop, contemporary, jazz or ballet, dancing ends up burning tons of calories and you won’t even be focused on the intensity because your mind will be on getting the moves right. That’s why dancers have some of the best bodies you’ve ever seen. You’ll have fun, make new friends and develop new skills while you’re at it!
Head to the Water
It’s HOT this summer, so heading to the water shouldn’t be a challenge at all. Take up Paddleboarding, Surfing, Kayaking, Canoeing, or Competitive Swimming other fun water activities that also burn calories! Canoeing and Kayaking build up that arm strength. Paddleboarding builds your core and overall body strength. Surfing is pretty much crossfit for your entire body, as is focused, competitive swimming.
Fitness Picnic Basket
Take your workout to-go! Compile a fitness picnic basket and keep it in your car at all times. This is a perfect way to save a trip back home and easily fit in an impromptu exercise throughout your day. Find a duffle bag, wicker basket or picnic-sized basket where you can store your stuff and be ready for a quick sweat sesh anywhere you go! Throw in some free weights, a jump rope, a few yoga mats (in case you have any friends who want to join in,) a kettlebell, resistance bands and whatever else you want to add! To be extra prepared, you can even add some workout clothes like some cute yoga leggings and sports bra, socks and sneakers, in case you’re out and need a quick wardrobe change.
