Fall Fashion: Autumn Color Palette
Autumn has arrived and that means all our Fall favorites have, too: jackets, shackets, knits, sweaters, puffy coats, and cozy leggings that hug us and keep us warm when the cool breezes start blowing. Pantone and the fashion industry’s top designers give us forecasts as to what will be trending ahead of time, but ultimately, it’s the streets that make the final call.
Around this time of year, we always expect to see that switch from bright, vibrant summer colors to muted tones and darker hues that match the season. But this year, there’s a bit of a surprise in store when it comes to the 2021 Fall Fashion Color Palette. There are bolder hues making a splash! We’re a few weeks into Autumn, so we can see how all the style forecasts panned out and here’s what we’re seeing:
Illuminating Yellow
In Autumn's past, yellow has trended during the fall, but it was always more of a burnt or mustard yellow. The shade was something reminiscent of a couch in the Brady Bunch’s living room or a knit cardigan on a 70’s flower child running through a meadow.
The specific shade that’s currently trending on the store racks is a bright shade of yellow that Pantone calls Illuminating Yellow. It’s something you expect to see during Spring, not Fall. It evokes joy, makes you think of canaries and daffodils, not necessarily crisp fall breezes; but pair it with muted tones like greys or browns and you’ve got yourself a fresh new feel and an on-trend yellow for Fall 2021.
Fire Whirl
This shade of red is not like the darker versions from years past; this is not burgundy, maroon or wine. This shade of red is boldly different. It is described by Pantone as a “vigorous red with a dynamic presence.” Think cherries, think seductive and deep; think the Little Red Riding Hood. This was unexpected, but Fire Whirl is here and it looks absolutely captivating this season. Wear it in your athleisure, your cocktail dresses and your knitwear for a fiery fashion feel. It pairs wonderfully with just about anything, so don’t be afraid to rock your bright red leggings and matching sports bra with brown boots or a navy cardigan.
Fuchsia Fedora
Fall always makes some room for those go-to jewel tones. We’ve seen fuchsia show up in years past and this year, it’s back and coming in hot. Rock this funky fuchsia shade as a whole, monochrome set - like fuchsia pants + crop top + a lighter pink outerwear piece (blazer, long cardigan or bomber jacket) or go bold in a fuschia bodycon dress. If you’re a bit more cautious about bright colors, try incorporating it just in one piece like a fuchsia tunic top or crop top.
Adobe Clay and Root Beer
It wouldn’t be Fall if we didn’t see some muted tones and some nude adjacent colors. That’s where Adobe Clay and Root Beer come in. Pantone called it and we’re seeing it. Brown is back in full effect and in 2 fresh new tones. Clay is that warm, rustic shade of brown we love and that looks amazing as a blazer, a trenchcoat or a shacket. Want to rock it monochromatic from head to toe? Well you’ll look super chic. A clay colored sports bra + legging set can instantly turn into streetwear with a floor-length cardigan or an oversized jean jacket thrown over it. Root beer has less red tones in it and is more earthy. This shade can look super chic and dressed up or can be used in more dressed-down looks. Rock “Root Beer” brown in anything from biker shorts to bucket hats, floor-length coats to oversized tees and more.
